NYCFC’s Captain and MLS MVP David Villa has been named the Best MLS Player at the 2017 ESPYS.
“I’m very happy and proud to receive this award on behalf of all of my teammates and coaches who help me every day to score goals and to win games for NYCFC,” Villa told NYCFC’s website.
The other nominees were Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Andre Blake, Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei, FC Dallas defender Matt Hedges, and New York Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips. David Villa is the seventh player to receive the ESPYS award, following Landon Donovan, David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Tim Cahill, Robbie Keane, and Sebastian Giovinco.
